Is there an age limit for opening a bank account?

I want to know if there is an age limit for opening a bank account. If so, can you please tell me what age you have to be in order to open a bank account. Thank you for any information you guys can give me.
Is there an age limit for opening a bank account?
I used to work for one of the biggest banks in U.S. for 4 years, opening accounts and doing loans, and I was allowed to open a savings account at about any age (usually 15 and up), for checking accounts, we were allowed to do 17 and up. The overall policy of the bank is 18 and up for any account, but individual bank regions have some flexibility on the rules. If you are 17, or even 16, and you really want a checking account, check in with the 2 or 3 largest banks in your area and you might get lucky.

If you have an adult to co-sign with you, you can open a savings at any age, checking will still have limitations. I've opened checking accounts for 15 and up with a co-signer. I'd give them a debit card, but not the checks.

The banks in general don't like to open accounts for people under 18 without a co-signer because a minor cannot sign a contract and be liable for it, so if you overspend your account by a couple of hundred (or thousand) dollars, they can't really go after you. That's why they want an adult there, so someone can be held responsible.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Reply:most credit union their is no age limit if you have an 18+ year old as a joint account holder
Reply:Most banks will let you do a Savings account at about any age but most banks require you to be 18 for a checking account.....
Reply:Not usually - what bank wouldn't want to take your money!? We started one for our kids when they were born. Good Luck.
Reply:You can have a savings account in your name at any age but you must be at least 18 to have a checking account here in the U.S.

How can you avoid being overdrawn on your checking account?

Because of the lag time that happens with debit card purchases, I am going overdrawn and having to pay fees. Any practical advice on this?

Make sure you write down every purchase. Also, I have an extra $150 in my checking account that is not listed in my checkbook. I always know when I balance that the bank is going to show me with an "extra" $150. However, if my checkbook shows me having $95.25.. then that's all I have to spend. (That way you have a little extra in your account if you happen to forget to write something down.. so it won't cause you to overdraft). This works for me.. good luck to you!
Reply:Balance your checkbook. Never spend money that you don't have in the bank.
Reply:Keeping accurate records as already mentioned should help providing you always check before making a purchase. There are some banks that have a special type of No Bounce account which is connected to a savings account and they will forward the money to your checking to prevent an overdraw or bouncing check.

2) spend less

OK, this is why minimalists don't write books. Still this is the answer, the whole answer and nothing but the answer.
Reply:Well, this may not be practical, but my mother and i (once the money has been placed into our accounts) take all but one hundred dollars of the money in the account out,in cash. My mom keeps hers as cash, but what i use is the new Visa card. Its like a debet card, but its more of a gift card. Its called "The All-Access Visa Prepaid Card". Its "reloadable" which mean that its like a girft card in the sence that what money you place on it, is the limit. But unlike a gift card, you can put more money on it at anytime. You can use it just like a debit card, but there are NO overdrafts simply bc if you do not have the funds available to pay for somehting, it doesnt let the purchase go through/ be paid. You can call the 800 number to find out what the balance is, or check it online. There are fees for somethings, but you have service plan options. I choose the Pay-as-you-go one since it is just easier for me. You can pick up a brochure on it at any Walmart (providing there is one near you) or you can check it out on Visa's website. Either way, if you choose to take to money out, resist ALL temtaions, and whatever you do, DO NOT USE Your bank card at all, until more money as be placed in the account. NO yes it is drastic, but drastic has worked for 5 months for both my mother and I, no overdrafts with the late fees or anything. Its all a suggestion, but do your best to be on top of it, bc those overage charges on my cell phone are nicer then the overdrafts i used to get, so I dont want anyone else to end up like that. below is the Visa link to the page i was talking about, and best wishes, and of course best of luck.
Reply:Well if your bank has online banking keep up to date with that, and I know it's hard but really balance using receipts you got from debit card purchases. If you write each item in as if you are writing a check in the ledger, you should have a better idea. Know that when you authorize a company to use your debit card it can take up to 60 days for them to actually collect the funds. Of course, this almost never happens because stores will try to authorize as soon as possible, and frequently run batch requests to collect the money, but it CAN happen so you need to keep an eye on what you have done versus what has actually come out of your account. Also see if your bank offers over draft loans. If you pay it back quickly, you'll pay way less in interest compared to NSF fees on individual items.
Reply:Yes...dont spend more then you have in your checking account.
Reply:make sure you keep your account balanced at all times and deduct your debit card purchases right away. you cant depend on your online statement if its not figuring in your debit card purchases.
Reply:It's called a checkbook ledger.

As you make a debit or check purchase or withdraw money from your account you write it in the ledger, where, when and how much and subtract it from what's available. Now you know how much is available, even when it hasn't come out of the account yet.
Reply:People keep talking about balancing check books, but if you're a guy and don't carry a purse and balance it right away, this is not going to happen.. I used to withdraw $ from the ATM and keep the receipts with account balances in my wallet. Another thing to do if you need to pay with it is use a credit card to pay for purchases and then pay it off each month.. Just don't overspend.. This will avoid the overdrafts at least.
Reply:balance your checkbook!! You have to write all of your deposits in it. deduct all of the checks you write. Deduct all of your debits right away. Buy a calculator. and do NOT write a check when you dont have the money to cover it!!
Reply:you have to be diligent in recording and deducting your purchases in your check ledger and tracking your correct balance after you make the purchases not waiting for them to show in your bank account. When you make the purchase, the money has been spent--it might be sitting in your bank account for a few days, but it is no longer your money to spend.

Also when you are entering your deductions in your check ledger , round up--if the purchase is 19.45, write in 20, eventually you'll have a decent padding.

next step, if you have a savings account, then link the account to the checking account and they can pull money from the savings to pay for over drafts in the checking--you'll still have to pay a fee, but it is no where near as expensive as bouncing a debit purchase or a check.
Reply:This happens to a lot of people, including me. I am not totally sure. All I know is, it is a B i a t c h paying for these stupid fees, over and over again.

How many times do you have to put copyrighted videos and get caught until you lose your account on youtube?

I've already got caught with one video and they deleted it. That's ok but I want to know how many chances I have in case I do it again my mistake.
How many times do you have to put copyrighted videos and get caught until you lose your account on youtube?
It depends whether youtube see you as a 'repeat infringer". Also, it can depend how a copyright owner acts to their content being on youtube. In some cases, a copyright owner may want to sue the infringer but its not likely that it will happen.
Reply:Its usually 2 times but most companies don't even care anymore its unually only Viacom that removes most videos you got to be careful Viacom owns Paramount Pictures, VH1, TV Land, The N, all the different Nickelodeon channels, all the MTV channels, comedy central, BET, CMT, and some others so if you upload any videos from those stations your screwed a good way to get around copyrights is to make your video then take out certain parts and add a little extra like half way through stop the video and say time for a bathroom break or something funny to make the video different this will give you a little extra time other good tricks to work under the radar that you can use are.

1. if you are going to put copyright material on don't have a profile picture just leave it like it was when you made your account this will make them less likely to check you account.

2. don't use the normal names like if you are doing south park which is a very commen one don't say South Park- episode 12 or whatever say SP12 and people will eventually catch on and keep there mouths shut.

3. a very important one is block all comments because you dont want people saying hey why not just say South Park or I love South Park this is a dead giveaway.

4. the last one is never trick out your channel I know its fun to make it look good but don't make yourself look like a normal account with no videos block all channel comments and favorites basically everything that makes people want to check your account to keep your channel views down and if you want to be really safe shut off you subscribe button and reupload your shows every month or so to start the views over to keep them down

follow these steps and you can work under the radar and not have to worry I have a account now with 47 episodes of DBZ and I used my steps and I still have them all.

Reply:One more.

I uploaded a South Park video (made by me but using clips from episodes) and it got removed. I then added a football video and then I got suspended.

So basically, first it's a warning, second, you're screwed.
Reply:wow, excellent question, mine just got canceled today after the 5 time.

so just lay low for a while, don't upload anything in few days, should be fine. by the way check out my new channel; http://www.youtube.com/user/bomborolo3
Reply:three times but it depends... sometimes in a single video, the account is suspended.

How much money can I store in my Paypal account ?

My account is un-verified and I don't live in the US. Please tell me exactly how much I can store in such a Paypal account. Please do not answer if you aren't sure.
How much money can I store in my Paypal account ?
There is no limit. Your friend lied. There are people with million dollar paypal balances. You can store however much you want. I personally know of people which have upwards of 25k to 60k in their balances because they are collecting the 5% money market interest.
Reply:i would not store but a little just to pay for auctions and things, they can be some rotton sods and lock your accounts if they suspect anything they do not like,,i empty mine when i sell things might leave 50 bucks
Reply:Leave as little as possible in your PayPal account. It is not the same as a brick and mortar bank, and your money is not as safe there.

Chargebacks can wipe you out .. and you have to prove they got the item.

Open an account at a brick and mortar bank. You will be happier in the long run.

How can i cash a check without a bank account?

I got a personal check from my grandparents for my bday and their bank are across state and i have no bank account and rather not have to open an account when i dont normally have money to put into the account?
How can i cash a check without a bank account?
Now might be a very good time to open a savings account. Put your check there, and try to add a little more from time to time. It's great to have a bit put aside. It makes all sorts of things easier later. You might learn to like the feeling of being not entirely skint, and even thank your grandparents for starting you off on a worthwhile lifelong habit.
Reply:You can sign the check over to your parents and they should be able to take the check to their bank and cash it for you. Just put pay to the order of and one of their names after you sign it. Then when they get to the bank, they can sign and cash it. Otherwise, without a bank account, you can't cash personal checks. The bank has no way of retrieving the money if the check isn't good.
Reply:You cannot cash a personal cheque unless you have a bank account.

If the check was a federal or state check you may be able to at a bank with proper ID etc.. but because its a personal cheque you won't be able to..

If you have parents with good credit.. or someone close to you with good credit and decent assets.. their bank may cash it for them if you sign it over to them first.

Reply:Now might be the time to open an account and just leave a few dollars in there so you won't have this problem in the future. Time will come soon that you'll have the need for an account so you might as well do it now.
Reply:I think you can go into the bank that the check was drawn on and cash it with a valid state ID. Of have a parent/friend/family member deosit it into their account and give you cash.
Reply:Your parents may be able to cash it for you at their bank.

If you live in a rural area, some grocery stores still cash checks. But they're getting fewer and fewer.
Reply:Go to a cash checking place with proper ID .You will be able to cash it for a small fee....bd
Reply:simply go most liqer store cash checks
Reply:you cant.

Will changing account numbers with my credit card company affect my credit score?

I lost my credit card and Capital One is going to send me a new one and change the account number. Will this affect my credit score at all since my old account is going to be closed and a new one opened?
Will changing account numbers with my credit card company affect my credit score?
No, It will just make an additional entry on your credit report and the old account's status will be 'lost/stolen'.

Wont do you any harm yet.
