How much money do you have to have before you can open a checking or savings account?
depends on the bank some say 5 some say 100 check with different banks to find out and decide whats best for you
Reply:I would say around 100$.
Reply:Typically banks require 50 - 100 dollars to open. Some banks require a minimum balance in order to waive the fees of a checking account. Check into that before going with any bank.
Reply:Some still let you do it with $25.

The tricky thing is the fees. You might be able to open the account with that amount, but your fees could be based on your minimum balance. For example, a $15 fee if you have less than $100 balance in the savings account.
Reply:$5
Reply:sovereign bank let you open as little as $10 but you don't have to keep the mininum for checking
Reply:depends on the bank.. my bank, you have to have $250 in either. Call the bank you are interested in and ask, they will be glad to tell you.
Reply:When I worked at the bank a few years ago, we allowed customers to open accounts with as little as $10. Don't expect larger banks to allow such a small deposit.

Reply:Okay, well depending if it's opened at a credit union or a regular bank. When I opened a checking or a savings at a bank the min was $50, and at the credit union I believe it is $5. I would recommend the credit union is cheaper on fee's incase you bounce a check or something. Hope this helps
Reply:Most banks require about $50. But some might take less. Call around - just make sure the checking is free with no hidden fees. Otherwise you'll find your money dwindling faster than you can put it in.
Reply:I would think that you would want at least $100 before you bother putting it in an account.
Reply:it's not really a set amount, though many have minimum account balances just to keep it open. if it's your first account you should go to the same bank as a relative if you can. they might be a little nicer to you when starting up if you come as a reference.
