Is there an age limit for opening a bank account?

I want to know if there is an age limit for opening a bank account. If so, can you please tell me what age you have to be in order to open a bank account. Thank you for any information you guys can give me.
Is there an age limit for opening a bank account?
I used to work for one of the biggest banks in U.S. for 4 years, opening accounts and doing loans, and I was allowed to open a savings account at about any age (usually 15 and up), for checking accounts, we were allowed to do 17 and up. The overall policy of the bank is 18 and up for any account, but individual bank regions have some flexibility on the rules. If you are 17, or even 16, and you really want a checking account, check in with the 2 or 3 largest banks in your area and you might get lucky.

If you have an adult to co-sign with you, you can open a savings at any age, checking will still have limitations. I've opened checking accounts for 15 and up with a co-signer. I'd give them a debit card, but not the checks.

The banks in general don't like to open accounts for people under 18 without a co-signer because a minor cannot sign a contract and be liable for it, so if you overspend your account by a couple of hundred (or thousand) dollars, they can't really go after you. That's why they want an adult there, so someone can be held responsible.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Reply:most credit union their is no age limit if you have an 18+ year old as a joint account holder
Reply:Most banks will let you do a Savings account at about any age but most banks require you to be 18 for a checking account.....
Reply:Not usually - what bank wouldn't want to take your money!? We started one for our kids when they were born. Good Luck.
Reply:You can have a savings account in your name at any age but you must be at least 18 to have a checking account here in the U.S.
