What is the legal age to have a bank account?
You may have a bank account at the age of 1 month. However most financial institutions require you have a parent or guardian sign on a checking with debit card account with you. If it is just a savings account go to your local bank and ask to see a personal banker they will be more than happy to help you and in most cases with just a savings a parent or guardian is not normally needed.
Reply:At 17 you should be old enough to set up your own bank account. Call the bank where you are interested in keeping your money and ask for details. By the way, if you are thinking about opening a savings account, check the interest rates of several banks by calling around or checking them out online. Then put your money in the bank which offers the most interest.
Reply:Before you are 18 you might need your parents to cosign for your account.
